Job Description


1. Will ensure operational proficiency of Lab

2. Responsible for the overall compliance of Human Resource and administrative policies and procedures

governing Lafayette General Health and individual facility as appropriate with its objectives, within the

proper lines of authority

3. Responsible for departmental policies and procedures governing Laboratory

4. Recognizes the role as the cornerstone of a successful and effective Corporate Compliance program in that

the Director has access to resources throughout the organization to assist the employee in upholding the

Code of Conduct

5. Directs or promotes care activities in the accreditation and licensing processes administered by Joint

Commission, State Boards, and College of American Pathologists

6. Initiates, reviews and approves justifiable requests for new equipment, new and renewed programs, staffing

and other matters that directly or indirectly affect patients, personnel and the public

7. Prepares and administers annual operating and capital equipment budgets, monitors actual performance

versus budget and submits all required monthly/quarterly variance and performance reports

8. Reviews monthly incident, activity, and productivity reports for Lab, monitoring for emerging patterns and

to provide applicable information to others

9. Responsible for overall Performance Improvement Plan for Lab. Evaluates trends and implements change as

necessary for positive outcomes

10. Participates in administrative and or management staff, mandatory programs, and classes. Conduct

department meetings regularly. Keeps self visible an accessible to clinical, ancillary and supervisory staff

11. Actively participates on hospital committees to promote integration and synergy of hospital wide system


12. Plans and markets service line related business in accordance with national and local trends

13. Establishes and maintains membership or applicable professional and/or technical organizations, healthcare

related associations and community groups. Participates in seminars, conferences, work shops, and

continuing education programs

14. Inspires confidence by performing and communicating in a professional, courteous and caring manner

15. Encourages open, timely and candid communication as well as collaboration among employees,

departments and physicians thus fostering and maintaining positive working relationships

16. Maintains confidentiality and is ethical in manner when dealing with physicians, staff, patients and visitors

17. Responsible for organizing, developing, directing and coordinating interdepartmental activities to maintain

prompt, efficient, professional services

18. Ensures that staff meets necessary educational, certification and license requirements for their position

19. Performs personally (or through Dept Leaders) annual merit appraisals for their employees, monitors staff

performance, provides direction, motivation and recognition of staff

20. Assures that the area of responsibility provides an orientation and training program for new hires of

sufficient depth and duration to prepare them for their responsibilities

21. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or support as appropriate to the age of the

patients serviced in the Lab

22. Performs other related duties as assigned


1. Bachelor s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical

technology from an accredited institution.

2. Current state license for Clinical Laboratory Scientist by Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners

3. Minimum of six (6) years of laboratory experience in both moderate & high complexity testing

4. Must have a working knowledge of all laboratory procedures
