Job Description

The Program Specialist -Research Coordinator position with the Cooperative Studies Program will support the Million Veteran Program (MVP) is located in the Office of Research and Development, Veterans Administration, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, New Orleans, LA .These duties include, but are not limited to

* Manages and oversee day-to-day activities of MVP, including all actions related to overseeing MVP personnel, enrolling and consenting pateints, the proper collection of data, and maintiaing records for approximately 4,000 participants per year.

* Ensures proper collections and shipment of blood specimens, per MVP protocol, by local site Research Assistants.

* Serves as primary point of contact at the site for MVP with service provides; such as faciltities, HR, IT, Fiscal Office, ISO, and Office of Communications.

* Prepares and submit all necessary documentation to local R&D.

* Prepares reports and any requested VA programs reports for VA Central IRB and Office of Research and Development staff.

* Develops and give presentation on MVP performance and results to local site staff and ORD staff as requested.

* Develops and participants in public relations activities.

* Develops and plans for expanding recruitment efforts within IRB guidelines and MVP protocol, including working with local site communication office in Veteran outreach programs.

* Collaborates with Coordianting Center staff to develop and implement public relations strategies.

* Liaises with the local Office of Communications to manage PR activities and initiatives through VACO.

* Engages in initiatives generated by site and VACO.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

GS-09 EXPERIENCE: Having one (1) full year of Specialized Experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Qualifying specialized Experience includes: having thorough knowledge, and skill in managing clinical research projects and/or programs, applicable federal and regulatory policies and guidelines that govern projects, (including Research Safety and Security and Protection of Human Subjects in Research); managing research settings and coordinating projects (including following protocols, enrolling and interviewing patients, and obtaining informal consent); understanding genomic medicine sufficient to explain genetic research and the role of genes in health to participants; research investigatory processes, interviewing, compilation of data, and development and reporting of recommendation and findings; organizing and prioritizing work, work independently and meet deadlines for routine reports and other information related to MVP; ensuring excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

GS-09 EDUCATION: Having a master or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related. (One (1) year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered as satisfying the one (1) year of full-time study requirement). (Transcripts Required)

GS-09 COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Must have an equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and Specialized Experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined for the GS-09 above. (Transcripts Required)
